Our Vision
The Takelma Cultural Center (TCC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), community-based entity located within the Cascade Mountain Range of Southern Oregon. Utilizing Native American best practices and nature-based experiences, TCC aims to revitalize and adapt traditional Native American culture while improving the environmental, spiritual, emotional and mental health of individuals and their communities. TCC’s long-term goal is to work in conjunction with regional academic, conservation, Tribal/State/Federal Governments and community organizations to serve both Native and non-native peoples.
Comprised of Tribal members, TCC works in association with traditionalists and scholars to meet its objective of offering positive cultural engagements including: Takelman Native American experience-based teaching curriculum (K-12), on-site prehistoric and historic museum tours, traditional art making, traditional basket weaving, flintknapping, traditional story-telling, traditional drumming and drum making, traditional gathering, traditional ceremonies, and informative visits to Takelman cultural sites throughout Southern Oregon and the Umpqua National Forest.
Located in one of the most culturally significant areas of the Takelma speaking peoples, TCC plans to codify and adapt what remains of our Native practices, within the context of education and cultural development, to regain sensitivity towards the natural world and promote a reawakening of ancient good stewardship. As cultural education, environmental sustainability and Native/Public health and wellness needs expand within our society, the Takelma Cultural Center exists to aid people seeking an authentic Takelman experience.
